Abstract
This survey covers 3,296 Awards issued by the SRO arbitration forums during 2005. A narrative analysis accompanies an array of charts, which break down the universe by types of dispute (customer-initiated (including small claims) and industry-initiated Awards). Customer claims are charted along several dimensions: wins by forum and state, recovery rates by claim ranges and top states, and representation of parties, as well as for one large sub-set of small claims awards-Research Analyst cases. Summary statistics are also presented for Employee-initiated Awards.
The narrative addresses punitive damages, attorney fees, stipulated Awards and selected notable Awards. Part II will compare 2005 awards with previous years for trend analysis.
